Hamburger Schwabacher

by Peter Wiegel · Website

Hamburger Schwabacher is a bold blackletter face by Peter Wiegel rooted in the Schwabacher tradition, a style of German Gothic script that was widely used in printing from the 15th century onward. The letterforms are heavy and angular but carry the slightly rounder, more open quality that distinguishes Schwabacher from the tighter Textura variants. Best used for headlines, certificates, beer labels, and anything that calls for an authentic medieval German character.
